The Historic Motorsport Race Retro Show at Stoneleigh with plans to run live events indoors in Hall 4 and outdoors on the main showground.
The opening Formula1 race of the 2010 season with new rules and more cars.
The "Flying Scotsman" entry-list is invitation only. Crews should note that this is a press-on-regardless style of motoring made up of three long days of essentially daylight driving, down remote country roads, with frequent timed sections, tests on private land and checkpoints, all manned by experienced local motor-club marshals. The Flying Scotsman is the only long distance purely for Vintageants and is aimed primarily at those with some experience who enjoy an element of competition.
The motor-car must be a model-type in production before January 1941. A few exceptions may meet the approval of The Selection Committee but only if the engine, chassis and general design criteria is proven to be of the era. There will be separate Categories for cars in production prior to 1921 and 1941 and within these there will be Classes based on engine sizes of up to 1100cc, up to 1500cc, up to 2000cc, up to 3000cc, and over 3000cc
"Modern cars - they all look like electric shavers" For those of you who agree with Mickey Rourke about the flimsy, gimmicky machines currently churned out by the automotive industry, s a chance to go back to the golden age, when a car was a ton of steel and chrome, with an engine that sounded like a pneumatic drill.
Rare American and European cars from the 1950s to the early 1980s are the focus of the exhibition, with the highlights including a 1948 Chevrolet Fleetmaster Convertible, a 1963 Austin Healey Mk11A, a 1966 Wolsley Hornet Crayford Convertible and a 1986 Jaguar XJS Cabriolet. Bike enthusiasts can enjoy a mouthwatering line-up featuring a Yahama Hl500 Replica, Trident Triton, Suzuki SB125 and the much-loved Lambretta and Triumph models.
There's also a serious jumble sale, where you should be able to find all the parts you need for whatever you're restoring at the moment, a memorabilia sale, and a valuation stand, where experts will tell you how much your classic car is worth. If you've got a vehicle you want to show off, then sign up to take part in the convoy that takes place on both mornings of the show.
